As a blend of technology and creativity, digital media is found in various industries and jobs in various forms including blogs, video games and advertisements. It refers to the digitalized content that can be transmitted over the internet or computer networks. Content can now be created, modified, and preserved on a digital electronics device.

Epoch of technology has made communication easy in ways which were not possible earlier. It has enabled users to maintain friendships and relations easily as distance is no longer a barrier. It also facilitates interaction across social, cultural, political and ideological barriers, allowing enhanced understanding.

Social media is a part of digital media focusing on user generated content. It has helped people to get in touch with like-minded people and form communities to voice their opinions. Unlike earlier times, people are now able to get information in real time as the events unfold because of digital media. It has helped people to get access to facts and figures, allowing them to circulate information much faster. Also, people are able to amplify their response to humanitarian crisis and support those who are afflicted by the crisis, say, they were able to amplify people’s need for oxygen cylinders and hospital beds through social media during the second wave of corona virus.

Digital media has a prominent role in boosting productivity of the employees in an organization as digitalization of content and data has allowed people to choose from when, where and how they get their work done. This is changing he nature of employment relationship. Digital technology like smartphones gets work done faster than the traditional methods and allows professionals to get more work done in a day which in turn helps in increased sales and revenue. Because of the rise of technology, distance learning is so much easier now than it was earlier. Digital media and technology are helping in closing skill gaps by supporting teaching and self-education. Learning resources now are available to a broader audience at high quality and low cost. Digital media has made it easier for the companies to hire qualified candidates for the companies as now employers can post job requirements on various online job boards rather than posting advertisements in the newspapers. It allows them to reach a wider set of audience. Employees now need to be more flexible to changing requirements and continuously learn and develop new skills.

Although, digital media has revolutionized every aspect of people’s life it has its disadvantages too. Since a vast amount of data can be stored on it, it can hamper people’s security as a single breach can transfer data in the hands of hackers, criminals or business rivals. It has become much difficult to have personal privacy in the digital world. Employers can now check their candidate’s social media profiles and they may see them voicing their opinion on political matters or find unflattering photos of them which may hinder their professional life. This technological era has led to a feeling of isolation as people now prefer connecting to people on social media rather than through real life contact. Also, with the rise of digital media bullying, threatening, stalking and insulting behavior has increased on the internet since its easy to hide identities now.

Both print and digital media have their benefits and limitations and offer different experiences to the reader so it is up to the reader to choose which one they prefer more.
